Movie Review: WALL-E

I finally got the chance to watch this, and I was very impressed. This has to be the cutest robot movie I’ve ever seen, and it is one of the best movies for kids that I’ve seen in a long time.  Rated G – now how often do you see that anymore?  Truly funny, not in a gross humor or slapstick way, or with adult jokes thrown in (although there is plenty of reason for grown-ups to watch).  No cursing, no real violence (there are a few robots shooting at each other, I don’t think that counts).  It has a good message, lovable characters, fantastic animation, and is enjoyable for everyone young and old.

The story is about a little robot, the last of his kind, left on Earth to clean up our terrible mess we’ve left behind – tons and tons of trash – while some refugees from Earth take a “vacation” on a space ship that has all the luxuries we’ve ever wanted.  The robot, WALL-E, has a unique personality, and finds the Earth of the future to be lonely.  He collects interesting items from the debris around him and watches videos about human life, especially love.

One day, WALL-E’s world is shaken, in more ways than one, by a search probe that he calls Eva (she is actually one of hundreds called EVE).  He has found the love of his life, but she makes a discovery that turns her into a mindless beacon for the spaceship.  She is returned, and WALL-E follows.

Kids will love the movie, and adults will get a lot out of it too.  It’s heartwarming and encouraging to see such a positive movie.

Keep up the good work, Pixar.
