How do you organize your recipes?
By Leighann on Apr 30, 2009 in What's Cooking?
I have a TON of recipes (could easily fill a large binder full) & I’ve started organzing the recipes by category (e.g. fish, pasta, cakes, cookies, etc) & putting them into the labeled plastic folders. Then I was going to put the folders into a binder but the problem is they could easily fall out. Is there another way I could do this?
My recipes are all in plastic sleeves and in a binder. I love this because you can look for the recipe you want, pull it out and work with it. If food splashes on it (if you're messy like me), it doesn't matter because you can easily wipe it off from the plastic sleeve. I've never had a problem with them sliding out. I use the individual sleeves (1 paper per sleeve). They're pretty cheap. You can also buy dividers to separate the recipes how you wish.

What I did was I got a nice hardcover notebook and used a glue stick to glue the recipes to the pages. I did them in alphabetical order so they were easy to find and I didn't have to rewrite anything.

I don't understand why people are still using plastic sleeves and binders, etc. Why not organize your recipes on your computer? Print the one you want when you want it. Spill on it to your hearts content – throw it away and then print another when you need to.

I do the binder thing too. Print out your recipes & use a 3 hole punch. I have 2 binders now, I do need 2 more, 1 is desserts & such & the other is for sides, mains & breads.
I also just downloaded a recipe filing software. It's nice, just copy & paste into the fields, pick your catergory & that's it. very easy to use & to print from.

I use a recipe box with index cards for the ones I use all the time.. Quick and easy and it doesn't take up a lot of room.
