Great Depression Cooking Ep:6 – Depression Breakfast

93 year old cook and great grandmother, Clara, recounts her childhood during the Great Depression as she prepares meals from the era. Learn how to make simple yet delicious dishes while listening to stories from the Great Depression.

Clara says that during the depression they usually ate bread and butter with coffee for breakfast. But on Sunday mornings they ate cookies. This is the recipe for the cookies they had.

For this recipe you will need:

3/4 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 cup flour
pinch of salt

maybe another 1 1/2 cup of flour
bake at 350 F

coffee and evaporated milk
wafer cookies

Hey,that’s not fair.Clara ate much bettter than we did in the 1960′s.I thought everyone drank evaporated milk when I was a kid.We used to eat puffed Wheat cereal which is cruel because it’s nearly impossible to get to your mouth.LOL Sometimes the cheese in the mouse -trap was tempting so I figure this Depression that started in November /08 will be a walk in the park.
