A conversation with German Dj and Producer Neil Richter
Indian born German Dj and Producer Neil Richter talk about the cutthroat business in the music industry. Neil has been djing for more than a decade and producing music since 2016. According to him in today’s competitive market one can’t just rely only on one skill.
Specially if you are a dj, not only do you have to be a good DJ to perform regularly in clubs and festivals, you also need to be a good Producer, you need to be active on social media, your networking with important people, your dressing senses and so on. It’s very important for a newcomer first to concentrate on the technical skills on djing and knowing your music for example what to play and when to play says Neil. According to Neil if you have good technical skills in your pocket then the rest will automatically follow. Because if you can’t mix music then no one will ever book you again. Producing your own music has become a really important part of djing.
If you want to become an internationally traveling DJ, without music production skills it’s hard to achieve that goal. Neil says it’s always important to produce your own original music, remix, and mashups. Once people hear your music and if you are good at it, you are always respected on a different level. Last but not least Neil’s advice to the newcomers is always concentrated on skills because without skills you will never go forward.
